Boohoo announce collaboration with Gemma Collins

The Queen of Memes, Gemma Collins, has been taking over everyone’s life. Whether it’s the latest video compilation of her best moments, or videos of her with her statement “so girls” – there is no avoiding Gemma Collins.

Now, this Essex sensation is fronting her own campaign with Boohoo aimed as a plus-sized line, something which Gemma is very passionate about.

Boohoo released images of Gemma’s collection, in which she was modelling her ranger herself, and we think she absolutely rocked it! You can certainly tell that this is her collection.

Set to debut on 28th November, the collection will include party dresses, jumpsuits, and going out wear, all aimed at women between the sizes of 16 and 24 – certainly a step into the right direction for fashionable plus size clothing. More good news for you guys, with the range, starting at £18 not only has Gemma brought to us fashionable plus size clothing but also affordable plus size clothing.

The advert was done in true Gemma style, and if you want to see a white pony, a bunch of half-naked males, sugary sweets and of course, the one and only Gemma Collins then take a watch of their promotional video here.

Designer Profile: Victoria Beckham

Here at Manchester Fashion Industry, we love everything fashion, and of course, with every great fashion venture comes an entrepreneur with a vision. Today, we take a look at British fashion designer Victoria Beckham. Better known for being 1/5 of arguably Britain’s biggest girl band Victoria, or Posh Spice, set about launching her own fashion line in the early 2000’s, and since then has seen a huge amount of success, praise and recognition.

Photo: Getty / Neilson Barnard

Victoria Beckham, born 17th April 1974, mother, singer, model, wife, and fashion designer. Are there no ends to her talents? After a hugely successful career in The Spice Girls, Victoria had got a bit of a fashion reputation for herself, truly living up to her ‘Posh’ nickname – she oozed glamour and had plenty of class, so there are no doubts as to why she has been as successful as she is with her collections.

Since her singing days, Victoria has stated that now her main focus is fashion, and for that, we are honoured – she brings an element of sophistication to her designs, which we wouldn’t expect anything less when she announces that everything she designs she would wear herself, and she does.

Her transition into the fashion industry has been highly accepted, and rightly so, Victoria has earned her status as a fashion icon. Appearing on the cover of different editions of Vogue Magazine, and having collections walking the runway at some of the most prestigious fashion weeks, Victoria certainly knows how to design an outfit or two.

Check out some statement pieces from Victoria’s Spring 2017 collection.

Meghan Markle: Fashion Look Book

We recently saw the amazing news that Prince Harry is engaged to Suits Actress Meghan Markle, and we couldn’t be happier for the gorgeous couple. Not only is Meghan the first woman to tame Harry, and we totally love the idea of a Royal wedding and all the outfits, but Meghan is one of our favourite style icons.

To celebrate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement we have looked back at Meghan’s outfits and picked out some of our favourites that we can all steal ideas from to get that glam look that Meghan is certainly known for, and will be continued to be known for. And already becoming one of the most Googled actresses in 2016, there is no doubt that Britain has gained a new style icon.

Stepping out while filming for The Today Show, Meghan teamed up a short and blazer suit, with a white half opened shirt and a beautiful pink bag – all pulled together with a pair of silver stiletto heels, a shoe which Meghan has undoubtedly become known for.

Looking soy and comfortable after arriving at the airport in London, Meghan wore a grey sweater, blue denim distressed skinny jeans, a long black coat, black beanie and white canvas style pumps. The casual, and practical travelling outfit was then pulled together with a beautiful bold blue bag.

And of course, we have to end on the most stunning outfit of all time – the announcement of engagement outfit. Naturally, this has to be an outfit that summed up Meghan, and set the bar for public appearances. This outfit screamed nothing but elegance, class, and style as Meghan wore a white Line The Label wrap coat, green dress and nude heels.

Plastic fantastic: How fashion can reverse the damage.

Come 8 pm Sunday night, members of the UK cosy up in front of their televisions anticipating the next episode of David Attenborough’s mind-blowing documentary series; Blue Planet!
Whether it be his use of high tech visuals or the soothing of Attenborough’s narrating, we all wait, ready to be educated, captivated by his knowledge.
Unfortunately, there is one element of the series which we all dread. The discussion of plastic. In 1907, man celebrated one of their greatest creations; an indestructible material which was about to change the world as we knew it. However, its indestructibility is now destroying the many things we care for. Plastic products contently drift through the oceans currents and become desirable sources of food to the sea creatures. Evidently, so as whales have washed up on beaches where their stomach content contains purely plastic.

Luckily, there are a few members of society who pledge to reverse these effects. Organisations’ such as Surfers Against Sewage ( ) are a prime example.
Alongside their annual beach cleanups, they produce plastic alternatives. This is because customers are starting to become conscious of their purchases. Positively meaning they are starting to look beyond aesthetic and instead are wanting to spend their hard earned money on items with a purpose.

Adidas Goes Plastic

A prime example of the movement in fashion, is Adidas and Parleys’ collaborative trainer. Which was produced from ocean plastic.
In fashion, this is known as a Bi-product. Where you extend the life cycle of an existing material instead of producing new. Perfect for plastic as it takes over 15 years to erode.

Adidas X Parley Ocean Plastic trainers

In history, fashion has been known to speak volumes. Plastic free organisations will thrive of support from huge corporations such as Adidas as they have such large followings. Meaning, their input, will create a ripple effect. As some customers may have been unaware of the damage created from plastic until they purchased the trainer.
Throughout media, fashion receives a lot of negativity towards its production. Its high demand, causes catastrophic damage to the planet. However, with the publics love for Attenborough documentaries and their continuous love for innovative items, maybe, this is the start of a plastic free and fashion forward future!

Manchester beauties turn out in force for Sean Maloney and Fern Howe-Shepherd’s Make Up Master Class

We headed down to Sean Maloney’s celebrity-inspired makeup master class that he hosted with Fern Howe-Shepherd at his salon and academy in Eccles.

Sean and Fern both created glam looks on their models Chelsee Healey and Holly Peers and during the demonstration let guests know their top industry tips and tricks, as well as details on all the products they were using. My favourite tip for all you lip lining wearing beauties out there, don’t start in the middle and work down. Start at the outer bit of your lip and work your way up, not starting in the middle and down.

On the night there were many famous faces all looking amazing in their outfits, and taking advantage of the 8ft flower wall from the fantastic Starlight Venue. We thought what better thing to do than to showcase to you all of our 5 favourite outfits from the evening so you can take inspiration from them all!

Jess Impiazzi

Jess Impiazzi, from Ex On The Beach, looked amazing in a wraparound with low rising black flared trousers and a flowery kimono, that of which looked perfect against the flower wall backdrop!

Laura-Alicia and Jsky

These two beauties rocked the red carpet together teaming up two gorgeous outfits. Laura showed off her killer figure in a tight peach dress from Mirror Image Style. Jsky teamed up the perfect casual yet still slaying outfit. His jacket was custom made for him by Franded81, his jumper from Whistle Blower Clothing, jeans from the Couture Club and shoes by Goodwin Smith.

Chelsee Healey and Holly Peers

The two models for the evening were Chelsee Healey and Holly Peers who both were styled with Manchester fashion brand InTheStyle. Chelsee teamed her white co-ord with some gorgeous boots, and Holly teamed hers with a dainty pair of heels.

We loved seeing how everyone had dressed up for Sean and Fern’s event and loved watching both of them create some stunning looks on their models. They also looked equally as stunning, Sean rocking a beautiful suit and Fern teaming up gorgeous knee highs with her black skirt and top.

Music’s relationship with fashion

Throughout the decades, Manchester has celebrated the importance of music. Embracing the concept that a temporary environment is used by individuals, but shared collectively, as a form of expressionism.
Whether it be the Northern Soul period or the Hacienda. Manchester encourages the community to come together and rave as one!

In connection to this, the fashion worn to said events has been documented throughout the decades and stored away in the Mancunian archive. The style worn in the environment is a reflection of how the music makes the participant feel. More than often, garments are chosen with movement in mind. Initially, rave outfits appear thoughtless and care free. However, there is a methodology used because the attendee wants to achieve maximum duration at the event. This concludes with some amazing outfits and is often a source of inspiration to fashion designers. It is either used as a concept to form singular collections. Or, used intently to build brands aesthetic.

Most recently, The Warehouse Project advocated the connection between fashion and music through a collaboration with the Italian apparel brand, Stone Island. The brand’s emergence from Madchester and its previous association with Britpop and football seemed fitting to Manchester’s born event.
The desire for Stone Islands high-tech sportswear has clearly returned, with vintage items becoming desirable collective pieces. With the intent that their heritage pieces exude incremental hipness.
On 6th October, Omar S, Joy Orbinson and Kirk Degiorgio were chosen by Stone Island as a reflection of their brands aesthetic. Trance techno played throughout the night in Manchester’s Old Granada Studios.

Stone island projected their iconic logo on the studio’s wall. Creating the perfect back drop. In which fans, donned in a soft shell and down feather puffer jackets (unworn and tied around the waist), gathered patiently in front of. Hoping they could snap edgy photographs. As documented by Vinay Jamnadas in the image below. This photograph is then shared on social media. Acting as a declaration of the brand.

Beautifully, Stone Island created limited edition T-shirts featuring the iconic Manchester worker bee. All proceeds went to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund. Creating merchandise like this highlights how fashion can be used powerfully.

Balsan & Capel: An Exciting New Menswear Brand

Introducing Balsan & Capel, an exciting Manchester based menswear brand that focuses on producing quality clothing with a unique twist.

The brand was created in homage to French socialite Etienne Balsan and English polo player, Arthur ‘Boy’ Capel who both had a huge influence on one of the most infamous and iconic fashion designers, Coco Chanel.

Balsan & Capel currently have a capsule collection called ‘Capel Casual’ which consists of soft cotton t-shirts, embossed with foil logos and delicate embroidery. The t-shirts are available in various styles and neutral colour ways, making them extremely wearable, versatile and appealing to a variety of customers.

Producing a quality item that is stylish and comfortable to wear is what Balsan & Capel aim to do and the capsule t-shirt range encapsulates this ethos perfectly.

Balsan & Capel have a vision to extend the brand from their ‘Capel Casual’ range of embossed t-shirts into high quality, tailored garments influenced by 1900’s France and the lifestyles, hobbies and fashion senses of its featured icons: Etienne Balsan and Arthur ‘Boy’ Capel. This vision has come to life and the brand are expanding into the ‘Balsan Bespoke’ range in 2018. This unique range will focus on intricate designs and details that are incorporated into high quality, tailored garments.

Sophisticated tailoring with a twist will head the collection, with quirky construction details such as subtle pleats, slits and folds that will be accents on a formal silhouette and add a touch of quirkiness to a traditional style. There will also be statement floral prints added to shirts and blazers, putting a feminine touch on a masculine garment – a trend that is everywhere this season.

Fabrics in the collection will be heritage-inspired and have military connotations and details, such as pieces in homage to the Blue Horizon uniform that was created by Etienne Balsan himself and worn by the French Army in the 1900’s. Although the tailoring side of the brand is inspired by the fashion traditions of the 1900’s, the unconventional details will make the pieces in the collection modern in every other sense.

The 2018 expansion will also see a hybrid between formal and casual wear. Expect to see vintage-inspired prints, such as floral blooms and more construction details that transfer a standard t-shirt and sweater into something stylish and unique.

Be sure to keep up with this exciting collection on the Balsan & Capel Facebook and Instagram
